Bank Clerical Exam Pattern

The Common Written Examination (CWE) for Clerical posts is conducted online by the Institute
 of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) tentatively in the month of November /December every year.
Candidates who are shortlisted in the examination, will be subsequently called for a Common
Interview conducted by the Participating Organizations and co-ordinate by IBPS.

The above mentioned sections except the Test of English Language is available bilingually, i.e. English and Hindi.

There is penalty for incorrect answers marked in the Objective Tests. For each incorrect answers one fourth or 0.25 of the mark assigned to that question is deducted to calculate the correct score. There will be no penalty for the Un-attempted questions

The shortlisted candidates from the CWE Clerk Examination is called for an Interview conducted by  the Participating organizations at selected centres. The venue and time & date of the Interview is generally mentioned in the candidate’s call letter. The total mark allotted for Interview is 100. The minimum qualifying marks for the interview is considered not less than 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD /EXSM candidates). The ratio of  CWE (exam) and interview is on 80:20 basis  A candidate is required to  qualify both in the CWE and Interview to be  shortlisted for subsequent allotment process.


Educational Qualification

Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government

Computer Literacy

Proficiency in the functional knowledge of Computer is mandatory for some Banks. Candidates are expected to be savvy with Computer before being recruited while some banks provide the requisite training for the same after joining.

Language Proficiency

The recruitment for clerical posts generally happens on State –wise basis, therefore it is preferable for the candidates to have proficiency in the official language of that particular state.

How to apply for IBPS CWE

Step 1

Candidates have to log in to the IBPS’s website - and click on the Home Page where the requisite link is available and register for the exam.

Step 2

Candidates will fill in their basic details and upload their photograph and Signature in the online application form before submitting it finally.

Mode of Payment

Online Mode –
If an ap0plicant wants to pay the exam fee online then after the upload of photograph and signature an
additional page of the application form is displayed. The applicant will fill in the details as per the instruction provided

Offline Mode –

Provision of making payment via offline mode is also available at the counters of the specified branches of the following banks
